It is important to seek expert help early to make the correct diagnosis, a full assessment includes:

 

    Taking a comprehensive history

 

    Assessment of mental state

 

    Assessment of cognitive/memory functions

 

    Identifying any physical illnesses

 

    Relevant blood tests

 

    Investigations such as brain scans

 

 

 

 

 

 

Identifying the underlying cause early significantly improves the chances of making a complete recovery.

 

Once correctly diagnosed, most mental illnesses are treatable with a combination of modern pharmacological treatments and psychological therapies.

 

Treatment regime would be tailored individually according to symptoms and the underlying condition.

 

Treatment goals would be to reach full remission of symptoms, regain activities of daily living - whilst maintain a feeling of wellbeing
